Look I’m not going to lie to you, but when I first heard about “the 7 chakras” and meditation I thought it was all just an imaginary “whoo-hoo” waste of time. However- the first time I have done a chakra balancing meditation I was completely blown away. My entire body was tingling, and I felt better than I have in YEARS. Since doing these meditations and balancing, I haven’t really been sick or in much pain again. It’s also a fantastic way to raise your vibration. The whole universe is made up of energy, and the physical body is no different.
Ancient cultures called the centers of energy (the life force inside of us) the 7 chakras.

Chakra is an old Sanskrit word that literally means “wheel”.
This is because the life force, or prana, that moves inside of you is spinning and rotating. In a 100% completely healthy, balanced person, the 7 chakras spread the precise amount of energy throughout your mind, body, and spirit. There are seven centers (chakras) in the body which energy flows through. When one or more of the seven channels are blocked (or too open and spinning to fast/ overactive) the energy cannot flow, and illnesses can appear.

Grab a coffee, tea or wine and let’s chat about the 7 Chakras!
They are:
- The Root Chakra
- The Sacral Chakra
- The Solar Plexus Chakra
- The Heart Chakra
- The Throat Chakra
- The 3rd Eye Chakra
- The Crown Chakra
I’m going to talk about the location and purpose of all 7 chakras, and I’ll also briefly discuss the symptoms you might have when they are balanced or imbalanced. Then I’ll give you tips on how to balance them all.
The 1st Chakra – Root Chakra or “Muladhara”

Meaning: “Muladhara”, comes from the words Mula, which means root and Dhara, which means support.
Colour: Red
Location: This chakra is located at the very base of your spine, near your tailbone. It reaches to just below your belly button.
Think “roots”, grounding, connecting your energy with Earth and Nature. So this chakra’s role is to support you with everything you need to “survive” on Earth, usually linked to financial and emotional safety.
Balanced: When your 1st chakra is balanced, you will feel peaceful when you think about things like money, safety and accommodation.
Overactive: This is very common since most people focus mainly on materialistic things like money and work, which will make this chakra overactive and will cause anxiety and fear. Physically, people might experience digestive problems, lower back issues, hip pain, ovarian cysts in women or prostate issues in men.
Underactive: If you don’t have any financial stress this chakra might be underactive. People may experience a trouble concentrating or feeling spacey. Though this is way better than an overactive Root Chakra, it is still good to stay grounded and connect with Mother Nature.
Balancing your Root Chakra:
Meditate, connect with Spirit Guides and be in nature. Do gardening or go for a walk barefoot. And even it’s cold, get out and go for walks or sit by a bonfire. Just connect with nature.
The 2nd chakra – Sacral Chakra – “Svadhishana”

Meaning: “The place of the self.”
Your sacral chakra is the home of the creative life force energy that supports you to enjoy your life here on Earth.
Colour: Orange
Location: The sacral chakra is located right below the belly button and reaches to its center.
Balanced: When your 2nd chakra is balanced, you will relish in the pleasurable things life has to offer, without overdoing them. For example, things like sex, creative activities and delicious food will feel abundant, healthy and enjoyable.
Overactive: The sacral chakra is often overactive when people feel guilty for enjoying the good things in life. Having said that, if you are enjoying things that aren’t healthy for you then your sacral chakra is probably out of balance. Symptoms might include addiction, hormone imbalances and obesity.
Underactive: When people forget about having fun, and being too serious and practical, your 2nd chakra might be underactive. Symptoms might include a lack of creativity, no sex drive, and not feeling passionate about anything.
Balancing your Sacral Chakra:
To balance your 2nd chakra, as yourself this before you take any action: “Is what I am about to do healthy and good for me? How will I feel when I have done this ” Your answers will direct you to your heart, which will help balance this chakra. You can also eat something healthy and nourishing, or create something artsy.
The 3rd chakra – Solar Plexus – “Manipura”

Meaning: “lustrous gem.”
This chakra is home to your identity, personal power and confidence.
It’s your “GUT-FEELING”!!
Colour: Yellow
Location: The solar plexus starts in the center of the belly button and reaches up to where your two sets of ribs connect in the center of your chest.
Balanced : When your 3rd chakra is balanced, you will feel your personal power and confidence.
Overactive: The solar plexus chakra becomes overactive when people overpower others. It goes with anger and the will to control everyone with minimal compassion. Symptoms usually include internal organ issues (like appendix and kidneys). And also digestive problems.
Underactive”: When you feel like you have lost your personal power, (either from circumstances or people), you will experience an underactive 3rd Chakra. When this happens, you may feel uncertain, self-doubting and fearful.
Balancing your Solar Plexus Chakra:
To balance your 3rd chakra, meditate on sending love and compassion to everyone around you. Focus on self-love and make affirmations that empower you become a habit.
The 4th chakra – Heart – Anahata

Meaning: “Unhurt.”
Basically, this Chakra is all about LOVE and Healing for yourself and others.
Colour: Green
Location: The heart chakra’s center is located right over your heart and it reaches down to your breastbone and up to your throat.
Balanced: When your 4th chakra is balanced, you will feel love and compassion for yourself and others, beyond any circumstances.
Overactive: When the heart chakra becomes overactive, you put other’s needs before your own. Symptoms might include relationship issues, heartburn and palpitations.
Underactive: This is unfortunately also very common, when people get hurt too often they build walls and don’t allow people in. So when the heart chakra becomes underactive, people tend to isolate themselves emotionally (and sometimes physically) from others.
Balancing your Heart Chakra:
One word: SELF-LOVE. I’m working on a blog post where I’ll talk all about the importance of self-love.
The 5th Chakra – Throat – “Vishuddha”

Meaning: “very pure.”
This chakra is all about speaking your truth.
Colour: Blue
Location: The throat chakra’s center is right in between your collarbone, and it reaches down to the center of your heart and up to the center of your eyes.
Balanced: When your throat chakra is balanced, you will easily speak with truth, compassion, and kindness. You will be an inspiration for others and yourself.
Overactive: The throat chakra becomes overactive we feel we’re not getting our voice heard, and then become louder in expressing ourselves. You’ll see it in people who constantly interrupt others, or talk over everyone in the room. These people might also often experience sore throats and mouth ulcers.
Underactive: If you have an underactive throat chakra, people probably see you as an extreme introvert or shy.
Balancing your Throat Chakra:
How will the things you say affect yourself and others? Speak your truth, be kind and compassionate whilst doing so!
The 6th Chakra – The Third Eye – Ajna

Meaning: “beyond wisdom.”
This chakra opens you up to information beyond the material world and the 5 senses, like your intuition and psychic abilities.
Colour: Indigo
Location: The third eye’s center is in between your eyebrows.
Balanced: A balanced third eye is a beautiful thing, and it’s really what you are trying to achieve when you start on a path to spiritual development. When your third eye chakra is balanced, you will be in tuned with the physical and spiritual world. Your experiences will stretch beyond your 5 senses.
Overactive: This isn’t likely to happen, but if that is the case, you will live most of your life experiencing paranormal activities and psychic experiences. As this is not a “bad” thing, you still need balance since living this way can be overwhelming and exhausting.
Underactive: Because most people are taught to believe that psychic experiences are not real, or “evil” or “bad”, an underactive 6th chakra is very common. Symptoms may include problems with sinuses and constant headaches.
Balancing your 3rd Eye Chakra
If you feel overwhelmed with psychic experiences, ground yourself and focus on your physical environment and nature. If you have an underactive chakra, meditate and focus on connecting with spirit. Also, be open for messages and signs. This takes time but meditating often will definitely help.
The 7th Chakra – Crown – Sahasrara

Meaning: “thousand petaled.”
This chakra is pure consciousness energy. Often referred to as a thousand-petaled lotus, it is known to be the most subtle chakra in the system, relating to pure consciousness, and it is from this chakra that all the other chakras emanate. Consciousness energy is everywhere and in everything and it connects us to the entire universe.
Colour: Violet – White
Location: The seventh chakra is at the top of the head or slightly above the head. It sits like a crown, shining upwards, (hence its name) connecting you to the energy of the rest of the universe.
Balanced : When we are immersed in the energy of the crown chakra, we feel a state of blissful union with all that is, of spiritual ecstasy. This chakra allows access to the highest clarity and enlightened wisdom. It is the center of our connection with the Universe, the Divine, the Source, the Absolute, God – whatever word you like to use.
Overactive : If your crown chakra is overactive, you may be experiencing a disconnection from your physical body and earthly matters. When your crown chakra is overwhelmed with energy, it can cause you to have a sense of elitism or superiority over others. Feeling lost, not trusting others and constant feeling that you are in the middle of a major crisis could be signs of an overactive 7th chakra.
Underactive: When your crown chakra is underactive, it can hinder your ability to let go of materialistic needs. When the crown chakra becomes blocked, it can often cause you to separate from the world around you and lead to spiritual unhappiness.
Balancing your Crown Chakra:
Only a few have attained and maintained the level of consciousness from the context of a completely balanced crown chakra. Among these people are, Buddha, Jesus and Lao Tzu. The first step is to focus on balancing and opening the other 6 chakras. Meditate and visualize a golden light illuminating the crown of your head, including that space just above it. Feel this warm glow renew and lighten your body and spirit. Let this soft and beautiful light to reconnect you with the world, your higher self and Source energy.
Now you know all about the 7 chakras and how they affect us. Meditate, Grounding and Self-Love is the key to a happy, healthy mind and body.
